In cases where all of the teeth of the upper and lower jaw have fallen out or been extracted, Dr. Peter Lotowski of Wisconsin Dental Solutions may recommend implant-supported dentures. These artificial prosthetics replace all of the teeth and protect the health of the gums and the integrity of the facial structures.
How Are Implant-Fixed Dentures Placed?
Before the denture appliance is placed, four to six implant posts are placed in the jawbone. While the posts heal, a temporary dental bridge or denture is used. After approximately three to four months, the final replacement teeth are clipped into the implant posts and the entire appliance is adjusted for fit and comfort.
A fixed implant-supported denture is a permanent restoration and can only be removed by Dr. Lotowski. Unlike removable implant-supported dentures, implant-fixed dentures are designed to stay permanently in the mouth.
Advantages of Implant-Fixed Dentures
Implant-fixed dentures are designed to provide a solid foundation and life-like tooth replacements. Using these sturdy, reliable dental restorations eliminates problems associated with traditional dentures, including the following:
- Irreversible bone loss
- Periodontal disease
- Bad breath
If you choose to have implant-fixed dentures placed, you can enjoy a greater quality of life. Eating and speaking are easier, and you no longer need to worry about loose, ill-fitting dentures that require special care and frequent repairs/re-lining.
